Why? Because I didn't know you could Fix a Slow Computer, and I thought that it was on its last leg. The memory seemed limited, too. All I did was wait...wait...wait. It was so frustrating, I just threw the darn thing away and purchased a new one.

If you"ve experienced The Slow Computer Syndrom, then you know what I'm talking about. My new computer is great. But, after a few months the same thing happened. It took forever to download information and....I knew then that buying a new computer was not the solution to the problem. After hours of talking to support lines and trying various software solutions, I discovered the cause and fixed it myself!

If you are having this problem with your computer, you've come to the right place. I will share with you my quick and easy steps to Fixing a Slow Computer. I've also figured out alternative solutions for many of the steps, and provide them to you. Do all of these steps and your computer will perform like it did when you first installed it.

Nine Easy Steps to Fix A Slow Computer

1. The first thing you need to do is remove Spyware from your system. Spyware Removal Software provides advanced protection and removal capability from known data-mining, aggressive advertising, Trojans, dialers, malware, browser hijackers, and tracking components. All of these small programs make your system perform poorly, leave you open to un-approved spying on your activity, and in a worse case scenario a Browser Hijacking or Trojan Horse download. Click Here to see reviews of Spyware removal software.

2. Update Windows to insure that you have the latest security patches. Click Here for Microsoft updates, and follow the easy instructions to update your system. When you have finished this procedure be sure to set up your system for automatic updates so you don't forget.

3. Secure Internet Explorer making sure a few settings in the IE Tool menu are correct. From Internet Explorer select the Tools Menu, and then Internet Options. With your mouse select the "Privacy Tab". Adjust the Settings Bar to at least Medium and check the block pop-up's at the bottom of the screen.

4. Remove non-vital programs from the startup program. Go to the “Start” button and chose “Run” enter MSCONFIG and when the screen appears, use your mouse to open the Startup tab. You will be provided with an extensive list of programs which if checked will open when you launch Windows. Many of these programs are not critical, but some are. The rule of thumb is, anything with the word “tray” in it should be left checked. If you don’t recognize the program from it’s name check out: http://processlibrary.com/ where you can get a description of any program, and then make your decision. The removal of a few of these unnecessary programs will help Speed-Up Your Computer. You have to reboot the system to make the changes stick. Should you remove an important program and cause the system some problems, you can always revert back by re-opening MSCONFIG select the Startup Tab and use your mouse to “Restore Startup Programs”.

5. Make sure you have installed and activated a Firewall. A Firewall is a hardware or software solution to enforce security policies. In the physical security analogy, a firewall is equivalent to a door lock on a perimeter door or on a door to a room inside of the building - it permits only authorized users. There are many to choose from, but this is an absolute necessity to keep your Computer Running Fast, and free of unwanted trouble. Click Here to see reviews of Firewall software solutions.

6. Registry Repair & Cleaner software removes the clutter and junk that builds up in your computer's registry from installing and removing programs, deleting and creating files and surfing online. Without such tune ups your computer can become sluggish, full of error messages and can experience system crashes. You want to use a Registry Repair Program so you don’t have to edit the system registry on your own. This is one difficult job and requires an above average skill level to accomplish. Click Here to see reviews of Registry Repair & Cleaner software programs

7. Scan and De-fragment the hard drive. As your system gets older it breaks up data files, every time save them into chunks, When you try to re-open them, the system must search the hard drive to find all the chunks. De-fragmenting the hard drive puts all data files into contiguous order and speeds up the search process. Every millisecond counts. Click Here to see reviews of Disk Defragmenter/Optimization software solutions.

8. No doubt your system shipped with an Anti Virus program. If it did, open it and update the virus data files. If not download one that you like. Install it, and then update it to make sure the data files are the latest and greatest. Click Here to see reviews of Anti Virus software.

9. Finally open the Control Panel from the Start button. Find and open Add/Remove Program Icon. Here you will find a long list of programs that are installed on your system. Review and remove those you are not using or planning to use. They take up space on your hard drive and in a small way Slow The Computer Down.

I hope you have found the steps to Fix a Slow Comptuer useful, I wish I had it 2 years ago when I bought a new computer.
